The Chilean miner Antofagasta, one of the world's largest copper producers, faces the threat of a Zaldivar and Centinela copper miners' strike on Tuesday (July 4).

Legal adviser Marcos Lopez said Zaldivar copper workers would vote on whether to strike before the weekend. Lopez was also employed by the union of BHP Billiton's Escondida copper mine, and the copper mine took a 43-day strike earlier this year.

At the same time a spokesman said Centinela copper regulators have voted to strike, but the government's mediation is expected to last another five days.

The annual output of these two copper mines is 160,000 tons. Chile is the world's largest producer of copper.
