According to Hong Kong media reports, the statistics of the first quarter of 2017 ships, port cargo and containers released by the Census and Statistics Department of the HKSAR. The cargo throughput of the port in the first quarter of 2017 increased by 18.9% over the same period last year to 66.2 million tonnes. Among them, arrival and departure port cargo increased by 23.6% and 12.4% over the same period last year to 40 million tonnes and 26.2 million tonnes respectively. The seasonally adjusted port cargo throughput in the first quarter of 2017 increased by 0.5% from the previous quarter. Among them, inward port cargo and outward port cargo increased by 0.2% and 1.1% respectively from the previous quarter. The Census and Statistics Department emphasizes that seasonally adjusted numbers can make more meaningful short-term comparisons and help to identify possible changes in their trends.
