Benefit from the recovery of the Iranian economy, steel apparent consumption showed growth, but consumption growth is less than steel production growth.

The current month of the Iranian year (March 21 to April 20), the country's steel consumption of 1.49 million tons, up 5%, but still lower than the same period steel output 73000 tons. Downstream industry demand for hot roll 634,000 tons, down 4%, cold volume of 201,000 tons, up 33%, cold volume demand growth is mainly driven by the automotive sector. Iranian steel imports fell 89% in the same period, to 29,000 tons, of which hot coil imports 8,000 tons, a substantial decline of 96%, cold volume 10,000 tons, down 66%, 3,000 tons of rebar, down 73%, billet no imports.

Iran's first month, the country's crude steel production 1.73 million tons, up 15%, including 817,000 tons of billet and 917,000 tons of slab. Of which domestic consumption of 1.29 million tons, exports 439,000 tons, exports up 28% year on year.

The increase in the apparent consumption of Iranian steel reflects the country's outbreak of economic downturn, showing signs of recovery, but the future of the steel industry continues to depend on exports. At present, Iranian per capita steel consumption of about 235 kg, the government's goal is to 2025 will be per capita steel consumption increased to 500 kg.
